Building Details
A. Architectural Excellence
The Canada Place Pavilion is an architectural showpiece designed
to enhance & provide a research area for Canadian culture
& recreation. The modular building consists of 3 modules
with 30'0' clear spanning beams to provide a 1300 sf Public
Hall Area for computer research terminals. The building exterior
is finished with a combination of glazing, metal and stone
veneer. Two of the exterior walls are finished with full height
seamless glazing to create a feeling of transparency. The
exterior wall is finished with metallic steel siding, which
provides a modern high tech appeal while the stone veneer
complements the building's natural surroundings. The building
has an 11'0' exposed ceiling structure with painted spiral
ductwork to create a feeling of height and blend with the
surrounding multi-storey structures.
B. Technical Innovation
This building was fully constructed at the factory and delivered
80% complete. The floor system is of steel and pre-poured
concrete construction, which was completed at the factory.
This provides for a permanent modular building but also allows
the building to be moved in the future if necessary.
C. Cost Effectiveness/Energy Efficiency
The mechanical system for this building, a Carrier HVAC unit
with economizer was installed inside the interior ceiling
cavity, which allowed it to be completely factory installed.
Only the intake louvers are visible on the building exterior
and all the interior ductwork is spiral ducts, which is exposed
and painted.
