Building Details

A. Architectural Excellence The building consists of twelve non-combustible units designed to replace a structure that was demolished at the site years ago. It is located in a Victorian Era neighborhood, and the Boston Redevelopment Authority required a design that would conform to the neighborhood yet have all the amenities of a modern 'state of the art' daycare facility. Months of collaboration between Resun, the architect, customer and manufacturer resulted in an approved plan that was overwhelmingly approved. The neighborhood is very proud of their new building, and extremely pleased to have the daycare program back in place.

B. Technical Innovation
NRB, Inc., the building manufacturer, delivered units that were essentially complete. Because the gable roof was to be site installed, and the building has a completely finished basement, careful planning allowed that chaseways incorporated into the design would enable all mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems to be shipped in place, with minimal connections and extensions required between floors. Mixed uses of the building resulted in fire rating issues between floors, so spray on fire proofing was factory applied to all structural components enabling us to close up walls and install the ceilings at the factory. The architect and the customer, who were unfamiliar with modular construction, were amazed that so much work could be completed at the factory.

C. Cost Effectiveness/Energy Efficiency
Prior to Resun's involvement in the project, it was bid twice as a union, site built project. It came in over budget both times. After weeks of negotiation with the client Resun was given the green light to move forward based on complete compliance to the customer's preliminary plans. And, because NRB, Inc. was able to complete so much work at their facility, we successfully reduced the total project cost by over 20% - while maintaining strict adherence to the client's specifications.
