Summary #N15022: |
| Permanent
School Addition, Halton Board of Education, Region of
Halton, Ontario. |
| Client
Need: |
| The
client required a complete design/build solution for a
permanent addition to an existing school. |
| Building
Size: |
| 16,175 square
feet. |
| Time
to Complete: |
| From start of production to completion on site, 10 weeks. |
| Project
Outline: |
|
As a complete design/build project,
NRB was responsible for all design and construction
elements of the addition, plus modifications to the
existing school building. These included two roof modules
with a prepoured concrete slab, which allowed continuity
of the fire exit.
The building features steel and concrete,
non-combustible construction, with varying sized modules
created to fit precisely into the corner of the existing
school. The addition connects seamlessly into the adjacent
school at floor level in one area, with steps up to
the existing school in the other area, because the grade
drops significantly over the 156 feet length.
Although permanent by intent, the
building modules were designed so that the five smaller
units along the 156' length are removable to stand alone,
or to work as a smaller complex, should enrolment eventually
shift.
