Summary #2075007: |
| Westland Middle School, Bethesda, MD |
| Client
Need: |
| The addition for this school had to be built in the courtyard of the existing school, which made site built construction impractical. The structure had to meet the existing school at two different floor elevations with a tolerance of only one inch. NRB’s build together off site construction provided the solution. |

Size: |
| 9,672 square feet. |

to Complete: |
| 3 months. |

Outline: |
|
This two-story modular addition is comprised of 14 modules of varying sizes which fit precisely between two wings of the existing school. Due to the enclosed courtyard, modules and site materials were craned into the courtyard using a 550-ton crane. The addition contains three classrooms per floor and an open sided stairwell.
The classrooms were completed with custom laminated casework, white-boards and tack-boards, projector screens, and unit ventilators. The interior is finished with painted drywall and vinyl tile, while the exterior is full face brick finished on site to match the existing school building. The unique three-sided stair module contained a concrete filled steel stair system with a cantilevered landing to allow the existing brick of the school to be used as an interior accent wall. |
