Two Storey,
Elevated Control Station, BMH, Fort Wayne, Indiana.
Client
Need:
The client required an elevated control station to
provide a birds-eye view of critical operations.
Building
Size:
Approximately
696 square feet on two levels.
Time
to Complete:
From start of production to completion on site, 8 weeks.
Project
Outline:
In order to give operators a birds-eye
view of critical operations, this building is elevated
a storey-and-a-half up on a structural steel mezzanine.
The building itself is two storeys high, with the upper
level significantly larger than the lower level. The
walls and windows are tilted out by 30 degrees, with
the result that operators have a 270 degree peripheral
view, from high-in-the-sky.
To site build this structure,
as the plant is busy and the station is elevated on
a mezzanine, would have been cost prohibitive. NRB's
modular solution features all steel construction, specially
engineered with structural steel that carries the loads
from not only the upper level to the lower level, but
superimposed snow drift loads from the adjacent plant.
Design features also include tilted walls, which prevent
glare on the windows so operators have clear vision.
All electrical, mechanical and plumbing features were
built into the station at the NRB plant prior to shipping,
so erecting on the site was straightforward and the
control station was operational quickly and easily.
