Project: Somerset County Detention Center
Location: Somerset County, MD
Building Size: 5,346 sq. ft.
Start Date: November 2007
Completion Date: March 2008
With a short timeframe to construct more detention space for their work release program, NRB’s construction of a modular prison building was the solution for Somerset County. The 5000-series steel and concrete design provides the structural integrity and permanence required with NRB’s modular construction method allowing completion of the project much sooner than conventional construction could.
The features of the building complement the existing facility, including steel siding and trim which were chosen to blend with the existing brick, and windows that were custom fabricated as well. Interior features include stainless steel detention-grade plumbing fixtures and epoxy coated floors, walls and ceiling areas. For higher level security, level 4 bullet-resistant glazing wall and maximum security door hardware was installed at the guard station along with vandal proof walls.
