Multi-classroom Complex in Reading, Pennsylvania
Thomas Ford Elementary, Reading, PA
Location: Reading, PA
Construction Partner: Sylvia Deye of Dimensional Architecture
Building Size: 24,000 sq. ft.
Project Timeline: April 2006 - August 2006

When portable classrooms just weren’t enough to cover the rapid growth that our client experienced, they turned to NRB to construct a modular multi-classroom complex to replace them. Working closely with the owner’s Architect and General Contractor, 48 prefabricated modules and related components were produced then assembled on site for this concrete and steel school facility.

In order to streamline the completion of the school building, NRB completed all structural elements including the clear span clerestory roof over the multi-purpose room, curved barrel vault roofs over entrances, and exterior concrete decks.  As well, all interior finishes including millwork, folding partitions, fitments, and final painting, and mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire protection systems were commissioned by NRB. The responsibilities were divided, with the General Contractor completing all foundations, exterior building cladding and site work, in order to achieve the owner’s specified occupancy date.

“NRB not only met our expectations, but exceeded them. Two things stand out most – their professionalism and willingness to help – taking the time to make a good project even better. The project success was due to teamwork, quality of work plus the fact that the surrounding community was impacted over a much shorter period of time and the school was open in less than half the time!”
