Muhlenberg College’s three-story dormitory addition takes the best of modern construction technology and wraps it in the architectural grandeur of the early 1900s. The building addition, which was critical to Muhlenberg’s campus expansion plan, consists of 20 modules and one prefabricated tower constructed of non-combustible steel and concrete. Modern, ADA-compliant student rooms feature high efficiency lighting, occupancy sensors, and high tech P-Tac climate control. Heritage features include a slate roof; gutters, downspouts and fascia made of copper; and specially-sourced brick. By building off site, the school was able to complete construction before fall classes started, preserve beautiful heritage trees around the building and minimize disruption to college life.
"This dramatic three-story addition, featuring a grey slate tile roof, copper cupola and brick sourced to match the circa-1910 heritage building, was completed so quickly the school avoided the cost of providing temporary housing for students."
